LinkedIn newsletter or live webinar series: 3 Essential pre-launch activities

LinkedIn newsletter or live webinar series: 3 Essential pre-launch activities

I recently wrote a post about starting a LinkedIn newsletter and a few things I would have done differently.

First of all, there's a plethora of advice from content creators on LinkedIn. Based on the many months of research I have conducted, I want to recommend filtering through all the advice and focusing on what aligns with your goals.

There's no one-size fits all content marketing strategy

For anyone that has not been active on LinkedIn in the past six months or longer, the platform has changed. It’s not a job search site exclusively. It’s a social media platform. It’s a place for B2B marketing, generating leads, and as of Feb. 2023, more than 9 million LinkedIn members have activated the Creator Mode (Sproutsocial, 2023).

The Creator Mode is one of the best features of LinkedIn. If you want to know more about using the Creator Mode, see my previous newsletter article about How to Start a LinkedIn Newsletter.

It may be daunting to know where to start. However, don't let this be a deterrence to get started.

You'll see many content creators stating that you should target a niche.

I agree with this recommendation in most cases, but this may not apply to everyone on LinkedIn.

For example, a content creator can have two professional goals: 1) searching for a permanent position and 2) searching for consulting business opportunities.

In this case, focus on your area of expertise and experience, and make it relevant to your audience. Connect the dots for your audience about what you're offering so they can recognize the value you can provide them.

You've decided to get started, what's next?

If you're ready to jump in and start posting, launch a newsletter or a LinkedIn live webinar series, here are the most important pre-launch activities to consider:

  • Profile optimization: This includes your headline, about me section, and a profile photo as a bare minimum. There are a ton of creators on LinkedIn with advice and suggestions. Find what works for you in terms of your content marketing strategies, business objectives, and goals. Remember that this is not set in stone! You can always adjust and improve your messaging along the way. On the other hand, if your goals are super clear, then you’re way ahead already.

  • Don't focus on quick wins and find what works best for you: Don't focus on quick wins or shortcuts. I understand this goes against the formulaic approach of gaining followers quickly and being hyper-focused on the number of impressions per post/article. Conduct as much due diligence as possible before you implement any tactics. What works for one person may not work for you.

  • Value proposition: This is truly important for any business. Clearly communicating your value proposition is equally important as a LinkedIn content creator. I have noticed that most niche creators consistently repeat their value proposition in every single form of communication.
